Heritage & Conservation Surveyors

Opportunities to Collaborate | Central Midlands

Are you an experienced Building Surveyor or Conservation Professional with a passion for traditional and historic buildings? We’d welcome a conversation.

At Carpenter Surveyors, we’re continuing to develop and expand our specialist Heritage & Conservation surveying services and are looking to connect with experienced, like-minded professionals who share our commitment to understanding, protecting and preserving our built heritage.

Our immediate priority is to strengthen our presence across the Central Midlands, particularly Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Birmingham, Staffordshire and the surrounding counties.

As our heritage services continue to develop, we’d also welcome conversations with suitably experienced professionals operating in neighbouring regions.

Who are we looking for?

We’re particularly interested in hearing from:

  • Chartered Surveyors (MRICS/FRICS) with experience in traditional and historic buildings.

  • Experienced Heritage and Conservation Building Surveyors.

  • Independent surveyors or consultants specialising in historic building construction and building pathology.

  • Conservation professionals with relevant qualifications, specialist accreditation or demonstrable experience in the care and assessment of traditional buildings.

Experience in some or all of the following areas would be particularly welcome:

  • Listed buildings and historically significant properties.

  • Traditional construction, including timber framing, solid masonry and historic roof structures.

  • Lime-based materials and traditional repair techniques.

  • Moisture management and the diagnosis of defects in traditional buildings.

  • Conservation principles, sympathetic repairs and appropriate maintenance strategies.

  • Specialist RICS Level 3 Building Surveys and heritage-related assessments.

Professional conservation accreditation, IHBC membership, SPAB training or equivalent specialist experience would be advantageous, although not essential for an initial conversation.

What opportunities are available?

We’re looking to develop a collaborative network of experienced professionals who can contribute to our growing Heritage & Conservation surveying services.

Depending on individual qualifications, experience and professional interests, opportunities may include:

  • Undertaking specialist Heritage Level 3 Building Surveys.

  • Providing professional advice on traditional and historic buildings.

  • Supporting specialist inspections and conservation-related assessments.

  • Contributing to the continued development of our heritage surveying services.

  • Sharing specialist knowledge and expertise within an established professional network.

We recognise that many experienced conservation professionals already operate successful independent practices or have established professional commitments.

Our approach is therefore flexible, with an emphasis on exploring mutually beneficial consultancy and collaborative arrangements, rather than adopting a conventional recruitment model.

Why Carpenter Surveyors?

Carpenter Surveyors is an established, RICS-regulated surveying practice with extensive experience in residential surveying and a growing specialist focus on traditional and historic buildings.

We believe that surveying older properties requires more than simply identifying defects. It demands a thorough understanding of traditional materials, historic construction methods, building performance and the importance of recommending appropriate, proportionate and sympathetic interventions.

Our approach is rooted in conservation-led surveying principles, recognising the importance of understanding how traditional buildings were designed to function before recommending repairs or alterations.

As we continue to develop our specialist heritage offering, we’re keen to collaborate with professionals who share these values.

Depending on the nature of the relationship, we can offer:

  • Opportunities arising from our established client base and expanding heritage services.

  • Comprehensive administrative, client services, booking and marketing support.

  • Flexible independent consultancy arrangements.

  • Opportunities for professional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

  • Access to relevant professional development and specialist conservation training opportunities.

  • The opportunity to contribute to an established practice with clear ambitions for the continued development of its heritage services.

Above all, we value professional integrity, technical competence, collaboration and a genuine appreciation of our architectural heritage.

Interested? Let’s have a conversation.

We’re not asking for formal applications or immediate commitments.

Whether you’re an established independent consultant, a Chartered Surveyor with a particular interest in historic buildings, or an experienced conservation professional interested in exploring future opportunities, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Our initial aim is simply to connect, understand your background and interests, and explore whether there may be opportunities to work together.

All initial conversations will be informal, confidential and entirely without obligation.
